Secret Mashed Potatoes

4-6 servings


5-6 large potatoes, chopped into 1"-2" cubes, with skins on (I like red or local purple potatoes best)

1 medium head of cauliflower, chopped small

5-6 Tbsp ghee, butter, or good quality mild-tasting oil

1-2 tsp sea salt, or to taste

freshly ground black pepper


  1. Fill a large pot with water and place potatoes in the bottom.  Add cauliflower on top, making sure everything is submerged in water.
  2. Cover and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.  Lower heat and cook for 10-15 minutes, until potatoes are tender.
  3. Drain most of the water off (keep a little) and mash using a hand masher or electric mixer.
  4. Add butter or oil, salt and pepper. 
  5. Enjoy hot, with extra butter or oil on top during fall and winter, and garnished with parsley or chives, if desired.
