Cooking Time

about12 biscuits

1 1/2 cups brown rice flour

3/4 cup tapioca flour

1 Tbsp baking powder (make your own with this recipe)

1 tsp sea salt

6 Tbsp cold butter or non-hydrogenated shortening (such as Spectrum Naturals)

3/4 milk (cow, soy, almond, etc.)

1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar or lemon juice

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl and mix to combine.  Add cold butter or shortening and cut into flour mixture using a fork or pastry cutter until the texture is similar to coarse cornmeal.
  3. Add liquid ingredients and stir until a thick dough is formed.  Continue working it gently with your hands until everything sticks together.
  4. Sprinkle flour on a counter or cutting board and roll dough out to a 1/2" thickness.  Cut with cookie cutters, placing cut biscuits on prepared cookie sheet.  Gather the remaining bits of dough and ball them up and roll out again, repeating until all the dough has been used.
  5. Bake for 20 minutes or until slightly browned.  For a crisper texture, bake longer.
